Fuel Quality
In BROMEDIR, the new generation of miniature spectrometers will be used to develop sensing platforms, to be demonstrated in 3 diverse application domains: a) sustainable farming, b) fuel quality control and c) hydrogen supply chain quality monitoring.
This post introduces the fuel quality control use case:
Focus for this application domain will be on both the control of jet fuel quality and control of biodiesel percentage present in car & marine diesel. Jet fuel contamination with fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) is possible during transportation in multi-purpose pipelines, vessels or storage tanks. Even a low concentration of FAME can affect the thermal stability of the fuel and deteriorate the performance of aircraft engines presenting a safety risk. For the second part of this use case, we will examine the biodiesel (FAME) content in car (petroleum) & marine diesel.
